The power of change
By SaintJerry A. Njoku

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failures than to take rank among those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows no victory nor defeat.
Theodore Roosevelt

To everyman it is given the power to recreate object of his imagination but due to an illusive assertion of people's indifference to our situation, we fail to appreciate the powers inherent in us as beings of supernatural powers over circumstances and the earth as a whole; of course everybody believes in the concept of change especially when money change hands or a new material is added to the wardrobe or sometimes fortunately one more car!

The law of orderliness
Orderliness is one of life best principles that cut across class and status if not interviews should not have been granted to the young man on the street whose in search of where to fit in as an employee because naturally he is likely not qualified...lacking desired papers or probably he is not competent due to his underprivileged environmental condition. God initiated it all at creation; He had orderly set every objects of creation according to their ultimate priority.

Man should have been created first probably he could help God run some kind of domestic errand, but it was not so, rather it was the land for the water, the vegetations for the land to be taken care of nutritiously by the water and the beast of the field for the vegetation so they could get something to eat, seeing there was enough for all of God's creation to eat, man was called up to take control so that there was enough for man to eat, shelter and work for man to do.

Every object of God's creation was subject to a change determined by man... one reason for his christening all the beast of the earth without any objection from the almighty God. Maybe the lion could have been christened 'The Killer' while the snake is simply called 'a Slide' due to its nature.

The Principle of development
To every man is given the power to develop his own world. But unfortunately, a misrepresentation of the word 'develop' has adversely whittled down man's knowledge of the concept of Change as contingent to the power of change itself. Of course it does has a base in ability and a gradual process of probabilities.

A good degree of common people have come to appreciate this idea of uncertainty as one nature of change and would rather prefer to wait patiently and let things have their due course. This is wrong.

Adam, 'the father of all men' had such a loophole also but decided to use it as a guide to one of his first task of 'change' on earth. He¡¯d sure must have admired the snake subtlety before she got the name, probably there is an assumed best time for 'change' maybe Adam could have waited until he had eaten the forbidden apple then the snake could have been best fit for the name...'Deceiver' rather than a snake...In today world of free speech 'a snake' colloquially is someone who is forked tongue and a deceiver but when Adam christened this God's lovely animal 'the Snake' there was no sign of future deception.

The word 'Develop' could be defined as a state of growth in which objects seems larger, cause to unfold or advance to a complete state. Every development is occasioned by a progression from a little to a larger size but change demands replacement of a different kind from a former kind, Most times there is no defined process of occurrence. the condition states that an exchange must take place bringing in an automatic newness into an event or an object. It is rarely ruled by uncertainty as some have misconstrued the concept of change for the power of change.

A personal approach
The power of change demands that you recreate your own world to suit the order of time. It does not take cognizance of a particular set standard nor does it respect any styled process, if it does, a lot of us I know would have trace it and course a new lease of life from this present situation of pain. Probably you have merely passed a cursory glance at your present condition waiting for a counsel on the best route to tackle your present underprivileged situation. Of course you're either conscious of what had happened or less aware of how you have dragged this far.

So long a year out of school, a graduate, no good job, no friend of repute, you are of age but could hardly afford to host a wedding, not even a good home you called your own, money do pass through your fingers but are not yours, you should have been much more responsible to domestic calls as an adult but here you are, you can scarcely help yourself not to mention a younger brother, 'Big brother' been shamefully ripped off you because you rarely have lived up to necessary demands. Come to think of it, this is a real world with you as the actor...then you wonder if this is really true; an upper credit professional university grad.

Of course you did get some jobs with a success line of from hand to mouth and all time additional used sandals you bought off the stand at used stuffs market. What on earth could be wrong? Age has begun to frown at you. If only you had a brother in the finance house, if only you had a sister overseas, a rich auntie, or let my parents come off very wealthy and influential¡on and on you ponder over your predicament at no fault of yours.

Attitude
Attitude determines your level of progress in life, much has been talked about change both as a process and as a concept but how well has it affected you? Or you had merely appreciated the wits of the orator (he's just a public speaker) and never bothered to move the course of things because you had preferred to be just at ease. Somebody said it doesn't really worth the stress and you wouldn't fancy bothering people who are likely not going to help as much. after all, whether you are rich or poor we will all live and die maybe it's somebody destiny to be a wretch and an off-scouring of the earth. You have a choice in a free world to change your situation.

In my service year as a corps. member, I was not poorly paid compared to a common staff of any public enterprise but there was this desire in me to alter the course of things in my life at that moment...of course I do pray with faith that things will take a new turn at its own time but prayer is only to excite your spiritual consciousness on the divine ideals inherent in you as God's creation.

Take a look at age; like pregnancy, as it grows it either exposes itself to honour, to shame or disrepute but one thing prevalent among both is...Time. In line with the concept of time, young people are quick to change irrespective of the snail speedy process, it's not new anyway but if each day according to time-set is new because we sleep and wake up again and again then our attitude towards change should ever be a new experience of relationship. A relationship of home, activity and the environment, a relationship determined by self.

First thing; you've got to learn to believe that nobody has the money you're looking for, somebody is only a stumbling block when you allow him to impede your progress or stand against your entrance therefore you don't believe him being capable of stopping you.

Secondly, no matter your level of income, you alone make your money and whatsoever you get from anybody is only an additional, No man alone builds a tower but somebody started it one day...in his heart. During my undergraduate days I'd spent a lot of money on clothes to an extent that it had become a priority to restock the wardrobe every four months...of course there was always extra money from one or two sources. First thing was to checkmate this attitude.

Desire and decision are two developmental concepts conditioned by attitudes; your attitude towards the event of life around you is likely to fit you into a perpetual circle of stagnancy without your slightest knowledge. It is fitting to develop a stubborn attitude to change but remember firm decision could be detrimental to your attitude if you are yet to build your desires on a philosophy of tenacity.

Learn to believe in every first step, which is your utmost desire for newness, take your mind away from uncles and brothers coming to lead you to the entrance and a ghost open the door bringing in a new lease of life. Most of we Africans are not so privileged with this influential family tie, even where some are fortunate to come off a silver spooned lineage, the promise of a bright future is often debatable... to some people out there it will be too experimental an idea to waste ones time and energy on self confidence probably where your hand wouldn¡¯t reach.

The fact is the lot of what you are going to get out there is a kind of paltry assistance...nevertheless, some are born already made. Congratulation. But change is not. As the wind blows from the west to the east and from the south to the north so is change. It is not determined by power, authority or wealth.

Conclusion
Finally, there is this story of two South Africans on a business promotion trip around a local region. The two young men strayed into an area where the only exit to the other side was a dirty water grove beneath a high fenced wall quite higher than their effort, in a bid to beat this hurdle they decided to look for an alternative, in the search for one, they found cubs roaming around the area, the sight of cubs likely signifies the presence of a lion lurking somewhere.

One of the men, full of surprises at the sight of baby lions freely roaming around and probably harmless, went closer to feel it, to their shock, the cub feigned a roar, probably attracting the attention of the mother or showing a sign of appreciation but amusingly, the two men never knew how and when they flew over the high fenced wall which they had thought is above their average effort and have been trying to avoid. One of them confessed;

" although I'd all along thought of the possibility of scaling that mountain, it ceased to be a barrier the moment I saw that lion expose its jaw, I don't wanna die too soon"

Although a comic picture of reality, this portrays a clear picture of the power of change. Now it's no longer what you heard or has been counseled on, far less than your imagination and fear; you can decide to die, to live or preferred a game of suspense and be distinguished only by a stunning mediocrity of people who knows no victory nor any fall...of course the best report will be 'The death of a man torn by cubs' while avoiding a contemplated exit route.

The power of change demands an immediate action in the midst of confusion and in the middle of your decision. It instills a force in you. A driving force that has ushered in so many revolutions, renewal of hopes and better living for the modern man.
